About the Teachers Peter Francyk Peter has been a student of movement and meditation including dance, Yoga, vipassana and many others for over 25 years. He has danced professionally both with Repertory Dance Theatre of Salt Lake City and with Pilobolus of New York City. His unique teaching style is a fusion of classical eastern yogic and meditation principles and western anatomy and kinesiology, as well as his own personal experience with injury and understanding misalignments of the body. Peter has studied with TKV Desikachar, John Friend, Richard Freeman, Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty, David Swenson, Rod Stryker, Sri K. Patabhi Jois, SN Goenka, Eiko & Koma, Diego Piñon, Cristina Mendoza Vidal, and many others. He is very grateful to his teachers and brings elements of their teachings to his students through the filter of his own daily practice. Peter brings a depth of knowledge and breadth of experience that you will not find anywhere else. He is known for his grace, enthusiasm, kindness and ability to elucidate and penetrate deeply into yogic concepts and weave them throughout the practice. Erin Geesaman Rabke I believe our embodiment is a profound source of wisdom, aliveness, and fulfillment. It’s a powerful gateway to a fuller, more satisfying life. My mission is to show you how your own awareness and embodiment can open up your life in amazing ways. I love helping others discover their own deep inner wisdom. This knowledge and practice can not only heal aches and pains, it can restore a deep sense of inner trust and integration which many of my clients haven't experienced since childhood, if ever. Imagine discovering a deep source of inner wisdom that is not in your head! It's there. It's my passion to help people access it and learn to live from it. One of the things I love about my work is that I help adults to relate to their bodies the way kids naturally do. I began my love-affair with yoga in 1987 as a teen.  Since 1995, I’ve been a dedicated teacher, practitioner and student of yoga.  I've studied with many incredibly skilled, traditionally trained innovators in the Yoga tradition, including my faves: Donna Farhi www.donnafarhi.co.nz and Gary Kraftsow. www.viniyoga.com. I’ve practiced Feldenkrais professionally since 2005, and completed my 4-year training in 2007 in Santa Fe, NM. In January 2012, I began my studies with Russell Delmanin his “Embodied Life Mentorship Program.” It’s the most amazing training I've ever done. It's totally rocking my world and my teaching - and I can't wait to share more of what I'm learning. Today, I offer private sessions in Feldenkrais (Shhh! It's a deep yoga practice - but don't tell!) and Embodied Life Work, and occasionally in Yoga Therapy. I offer workshops, retreats, and regular classes in person as well as online. I also frequently teach Yoga teachers, Physical Therapists in training, and dancers.  Both on my own and with my husband, I've created many original workshops, courses and programs. I am blessed with frequent visits from a very inspired muse. I am honored to offer my students and clients authentic, safe, and passionately inspired teaching and support. I am committed to helping people unfold their lives from the inside; however, I don't "fix" people. I have way too much respect for life and human beings to entertain such crazy ideas. This work is at the center of my own personal passion and my own learning edge, my intellectual curiosity, my spiritual practice, my curiosity about current research in neuroscience and how humans learn, and it's even at the center of my marriage and family life. I love it and live it with my whole heart, and with enthusiasm every day. I'm grateful. Charlotte Bell Charlotte Bell has been practicing yoga since 1982, and began teaching in 1986. She has established and taught regular classes along Utah’s Wasatch Front, and in California and Hawaii. She has also taught workshops, teacher trainings, and yoga for cancer patients and their families at the Cancer Wellness House in Salt Lake City. In 2000 she taught yoga and meditation at the Southwest Yoga Conference in Austin, Texas. She co-taught an international teacher training in Vancouver, BC, with Donna Farhi in August of 2002. Certified in 1989 in the Iyengar style of yoga, she enjoys learning from teachers of many different yogic perspectives. Charlotte’s teaching has been influenced by the work of Donna Farhi, specifically the fluid interweaving of breath and asana. She received her 500-hour certification from Yoga Alliance in 2000, and is currently registered at the organization's highest level, E-RYT-500. Vipassana meditation practice has had the most profound influence on Charlotte’s work. She began her practice in 1986, and has attended many 10-and 30-day meditation retreats since then. Her practice has been guided by her spiritual mentors, Pujari and Abhilasha of the Last Resort in Cedar Breaks, Utah, since 1985. Charlotte has conducted vipassana retreats annually since 1997, including annual retreats combining yoga and vipassana meditation at Inner Harmony Retreat Center. All these influences combine to form an evolving style of yoga that acknowledges the alignment principles of the Iyengar system while applying mindful attention to gain insight into the truth of each individual’s asana practice rather than striving for preconceived goals. She encourages students to explore and trust their own experience in their asana practice, and enjoys learning new perspectives from her students. In addition to teaching yoga and meditation, Charlotte writes feature stories for several publications, including Catalyst and New York Spirit magazines. She has modeled and served as editorial adviser for Hugger-Mugger Yoga Products catalogs since 1986. She has served as editor of the Intermountain Iyengar Yoga Association's newsletter. Her first book blends the principles of mindfulness with the practice of Patanjali's Eight Limbs of Yoga. The book is titled Mindful Yoga, Mindful Life and was published by Rodmell Press in 2007. Her second book, Yoga for Meditators, will be published in fall 2011. Erin Menut I have studied extensively in the arts of mindful movement, both as a practitioner of yoga and of the martial arts for over 15 years. A Certified Yoga Instructor E-RYT 500, I also hold a certificate in Yoga Therapy granted by master teacher Nischala Devi. I am a black belt and senior instructor in the art of Moo Gong Do, and hold a Masters degree from the University of Vermont, where I studied English, Classics, and Comparative Literature. I have taught in the Integrated Humanities Program and English department at the University of Vermont, and the English department and Gender Studies Program at the University of Utah. However, my true passion is Yoga, and before opening Avenues Yoga she taught at Centered City, the University of Utah's Lifelong Learning Program, the Sego Lily Spa, and Salt Lake Community College, where I also taught in the Yoga Teacher Training program.     Peter's Comments about the Training What I have in mind is a unique style of approach that I think echoes the old way of trying to transmit the yoga. I see the way to work like a mandala, each part connected to all the others. So rather than some linear approach we will be spiraling through and weaving together all the different aspects tantrically, adding layer upon layer and depth as we go. By means of this Tao-like, organic approach, our learning will take shape not only through intellectual understanding but through dialogue (the Upanashadic method), empirical observation (especially in the teaching segments) and direct experience. I hope to lead us to a taste of the soma, deep understanding - and also the lightning moment of spontaneous personal insight, shakti stuff, however fleeting. Along the way we will work with myths from India and everywhere else (including modern science) to compare and contrast, to gain better comprehension of the art and science of yoga, and see its prevalence and permutations in all cultures. From Patanjali to the Vedas to the ancient Greeks and Babylonians, the Egyptians, Indo-Iranians and Aryans to the Siberian shamans to quantum physicists... it is all connected and we will try to gaze into Indra's jeweled net. This is deep training for teachers, even if they have taken a training or two, and for serious practitioners who want to understand how to open up the secret doors of their own perception, how to elicit and hear their inner teacher, which is also the outer teacher (the world). We will work with and integrate into teaching and personal practice the classical 8 limbs of Patanjali (even as we open the question of who or what is Patanjali) with particular emphasis on asana and pranayama, as they relate to yoga practice; yama and niyama, as they relate to teaching and the building of a bridge from our practice to teaching; and the upper limbs as they speak to our inspiration and direction in life. Approaching yoga as a physio-philosophy, we will also integrate yoga's twin sister science: ayurveda. In this vein we will look at doshic theory, samkya philosophy, maha bhutas, gunas, koshas, and other relevant concepts as a foundation for understanding how to use our practice of yoga in a real, helpful and sane way. Ultimately, this process becomes a path toward understanding ourselves, yoga and the "culture" we are enmeshed in. And as we deepen that clarity we grow in the practice of yoga and learn how to help others through the practice. Of course we will spend a lot of time being practical with teacher tools regarding the fundamentals of practice, including practice construction and teaching. We'll look at principles of alignment and fine point alignment in all the postures and develop an understanding of the relationships of all the postures to one another, as well as a deep understanding of the interplay between each asana and the musculature and anatomical dynamics it takes to perform it. We'll delve into the use of sound (mantra) and its philosophy, as well as esoteric anatomy, the yoga sutras, the chakras, the nadis, with lots of work on the five pranas and ojas, prana, tejas, etc. This training welcomes all levels of experience but really it is an advanced training. Truly the most basic things are also the most advanced, and development in yoga is measured by subtlety and the ability to penetrate with insight; to comprehend deeply and ultimately to merge in silence, dissolving.... What I want to share cannot be said, it but can be approached and seen with the inner eye, and felt in the heart of the individual. This method requires transmission and sincere dedication on the part of the participant. In other words, if you choose to embark on this journey you will have to work and wrestle with many things and go the distance. I hope you'll join us. -Peter   What Students are Saying about the Training "I personally love working with Peter because he has a supremely refined mastery of Yoga and a sense of humor. He makes me enjoy working hard to correct my areas of challenge in the poses." "I like the depth in which Peter teaches everyone to experience Yoga. This inspires individuals to think for themselves and to look at the world from expanded perspectives. Dropping all pretense in each moment to be able to recognize the greater value of a Yoga practice." -Paul "I was excited to explore some of the traditional techniques of asana practice in our training and learn about mythology. I learned about a few poses that I was teaching incorrectly or as a one size fits all kind of pose(triangle) and much more about the history of yoga culture. The highlights for me were time spent practicing whether it was with Jade or Peter or Erin and especially learning how yoga was appliable to the different modalities of mindful movement/ energy healing. I loved watching Peter work with individuals and point out subltle adjustments or common problems.  Kirtan is amazing and fun. Erin is so thoughtful and accommodating to everyone's unique personalities, I love how she facilitated constructive criticism discussion in the practicum classes!" -Alaina "I will highly promote this to future TTs and I learned far more than I bargained for. Thank you both for sharing your time and energy!" -Shelly "Breakthroughs were many but the major one was seeing my disconnect from my own heart and the source; which is connected to my conditioning from western society and its predominant protestant work ethic mentality, whew, can't believe that fit in one sentence.  Also, the fact that yoga is about connection to the universe not a sinking into your mind and retreating from the world... I loved Peter's discussion of the readings.  He brought interesting view points and interpretations that made you think.  I also loved all of the mythology and its connections to chakras and everything else.  It was really fascinating since I have a limited background in mythology... I loved your (Erin's) approach to the training. It was direct, explicit and informative. It was a good balance to Peter's intensity.  I also learned from you the importance of being yourself no matter what the situation. Integrity is the word that comes to mind when thinking of teacher training with you. The guest teachers brought new information that I'd never had before, this was great to hear the same kind of information from different perspectives and approaches." -Kirsten "What an amazing journey I had during my yoga TT experience.  Peter and Erin challenged and supported me throughout the entire process.  My favorite moment of the training was a few weekends in, when we were all sitting around having lunch, and I felt this true connection throughout the group.  I think it took a little while for us to all connect b/c we were a bit overwhelmed by the depth and wealth of information, and so when our class finally made that connection, it was all the more important. " "I had a lot of breakthrough moments during the training, but one of the major moments was when Peter told us on the first weekend to separate our yoga from our exercise.  That really made me rethink all of my preconceived notions and expectations for what a yoga practice would look like.  I also had a breakthrough in linking my breath to my movements and gaining a deeper inner awareness of my body.  As a dancer, I always work from the inside out-from what things look like to the audience and how to achieve that look internally.  Through my TT, I learned how to reflect inward, to listen to what my body was telling me, and to negotiate movements with all of the 'players' involved in each asana instead of demanding and forcing." "I've learned a lot from Peter, and I can't put it into words.  I notice what I've learned when a situation arises and I think to myself or say, "Oh yes, Peter talked about this..."  At first, I didn't think much of what we were talking about was applicable not only to yoga, but even to my life.  I still have my own thoughts on much of what Peter taught us, but his teachings really brought to light many things I hadn't considered.  When I think of what I learned from Erin, I know that I learned a lot about love and building community.  Her hard work, sincere caring for others, and her ability to provide a safe space for community to grow are great gifts she offered to our TT group.  Erin is the glue that connected all of our training experiences together and she is the one that carries on the connection after our formal TT has ended, and for that I am so grateful." -Amy                                 --------------------------------------------------- Images: http://www.avenuesyoga.com/wp-content/uploads/Teacher-Training-2013-791x1024.jpg https://origin.ih.constantcontact.com/fs012/1102329572667/img/246.jpg https://origin.ih.constantcontact.com/fs012/1102329572667/img/4.jpg https://origin.ih.constantcontact.com/fs012/1102329572667/img/264.jpg --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2010-10-29 21:10:14 Post date GMT: 2010-10-30 04:10:14 Post modified date: 2013-01-09 11:06:14 Post modified date GMT: 2013-01-09 18:06:14 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.ProfProjects.com
